Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra

Shostakovich's 1953 Symphony No. 10 was composed right after Stalin's death, and radiates the composer's freedom of expression that had been stifled under the tyrant. Its first movement was shaped by Litton in a way that was steady in its forward progression yet unremittingly dark, sad, and in superb tonal balance... The wonder of this performance (Buffalo Philharmonic) is that Litton made the entire symphony seem like one continuous, logical musical thought, with wonderful illumination of the superbly scored inner voice movement. He is welcome as a guest at anytime.
